Can I install STREAM SU on one machine and then access it remotely using RDP / Terminal Services?
No, the free STREAM SU product can only be used directly on the licensed machine. You cannot access the STREAM SU software remotely.
If you wish to use STREAM in this way, please request a quotation using the Contact Us page. We are able to supply a license for STREAM which will allow the STREAM Single User (SU) product it to be accessed remotely.
Can I use the STREAM Database Uploader to transfer a STREAM database from one STREAM SU system to another?
Yes, you can. However, the STREAM Database Uploader will only restore databases from a database backup (.bak) file which contains a SINGLE data set.
This means that, when you create a backup on your first STREAM SU system, you need to make sure that you use the Option in SQL to override all previous backups in the set.
First, open SQL Server Management Studio Express on your first machine, and Right-Click on the Database Name to select the Backup task…
Can STREAM interface with other applications for automated importing of performance metrics?
Yes, STREAM can pull metrics directly and automatically from the outputs of a range of monitoring tools or products. On a configured schedule (e.g. every minute, every hour, every day...), STREAM can pull data from a variety of such products, which are configured as SQL Linked Server data sources.
Can STREAM work in a Dynamic Desktop (e.g. CITRIX) environment?
STREAM is CITRIX compliant, and also Microsoft AppV compliant.
We have experience of ‘sequencing’ the STREAM Client in an Enterprise deployment, into the AppV virtualised (‘bubble’) environment.
This provides all of the benefits of central management of a single STREAM Client with multiple users. AppV also ensures that only authorised users are provided with the STREAM launch icon on their desktops.
A Dynamic Desktop architecture can also help to address performance issues if STREAM is being used across slow network connections.
Error Message: "There is a problem with the CrypKey License Service. Please verify that it is installed and running"...
This message usually appears on STREAM Enterprise systems and indicates that the user attempting to install and use a STREAM Client does not have permission to access a central STREAM license pool.
It is invariably due to Windows permissions.
If an Active Directory group has been created for STREAM, check that the logged on user is a member of that group.
How can I release STREAM licenses which remain after a workstation crashes?
On STREAM Enterprise systems, a user workstation may crash (not due to the STREAM application, but for other reasons) and their license may remain locked.
An Administrator can see all active licenses by using the Enterprise License Management (ELM) utility. Please contact support@acuityrm.com if you do not know how to use this utility on your STREAM Enterprise system.
How can I set the Units of business impact to Euros?
Visit the Settings --> General Settings menu in STREAM, and find the Units data item.
You can generate a € symbol by holding down the <Alt Gr> key and pressing $.
Note: The <Alt Gr> key can also be used to obtain accented characters, e.g. <Alt Gr> with e for é
How do I backup a STREAM database, and where is the backup file stored?
You take a database backup as follows:
1. Launch SQL Server Management Studio
2. Connect to the relevant SQL instance:
How do I configure SQL Server 2005 Express on a STREAM Enterprise system
SQL Server 2005 Express CAN by used on a small STREAM Enterprise system. However, 'out of the box', SQL Server Express editions are not configured to support remote connections or network connectivity.
These are the steps to enable remote connections on SQL Server Express Editions.
How do I find out if I need the 32 bit or 64 bit version of STREAM Integrated Risk Manager
Versions of STREAM Integrated Risk Manager are available for both 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems. You would use the 32 bit version of STREAM if you have a 32 bit MS Windows operating system and the 64 bit version of STREAM if you have 64 bit MS Windows operating system. MS Windows XP, Vista and MS Windows 7 are all available in 32 and 64 bit editions. You can see the 32/64 bit indication of your MS Windows operating system on the Control Panel - System screen.
How does STREAM address the subjectivity issue?
‘Subjectivity’ has been a problem in assurance management (risk and compliance), for as long as we can remember. Previous risk methodologies and specialist software tools have in our opinion all suffered in this area.
In the design of STREAM, we believe that we have achieved significant improvements in terms of increasing objectivity, as summarised below.
Using traditional approaches, the following activities all famously involve a certain degree of subjectivity:
How large is a typical STREAM database?
We can only provide accurate estimates with known scope (assets) and setup.
However, a blank profile (i.e. containing control standards and threat setup but no business assets ) is typically less than 10Mb, and even with a considerable scope is still less than 100Mb.
The automatic Savepoints (created for historic reporting) usually add no more than a few Mbs per month.
Even very large setups are well under 1Gb, even after a few years of database growth.
I am trying to assess controls on the Control Assessment screen, but there are no controls showing in the sections...
You can access the Control Assessment screen if you are a member of the Control User role. Otherwise this menu item will be grayed out.
With membership of the Control User role, you may still find that there are no controls shown for you to assess.
I am trying to enter my Site Key to license the STREAM software, and the system does NOT accept it. What could be causing this?
The following messages may be displayed when you enter your Site Key into the License Configuration screen and click on Validate:

I am trying to login to STREAM for the first time, and need to provide a Username and Password...
The STREAM Documentation folder in the installation fileset contains the Installation Manual and Quick Install Guide.
Both documents include the initial Username (stream) and Password (stream-1). Please note that the Password field is case sensitive.
The Installation Manual also describes:
I am trying to manage my Enterprise License and the "splash screen" hangs. What should I do?
On STREAM Enterprise systems, the License Management facility is accessed by launching the file stream.exe in the relevant license pool (shared folder).
I find that some of the STREAM screens/dialogs are not correctly displayed, or are compressed. What could cause this?
In order that the Dashboard guages and other STREAM dialogs are displayed correctly, it is important to check your Microsoft Windows Display Settings.
If you find that certain dialogs are compressed, truncated or not displaying correctly, this is usually caused by incorrect display settings.
You need to make sure that you are running with the default 96 DPI Windows font, i.e. with 100% font scaling.

I receive a 'Cannot find' error when using the flash training packages, and trying to launch a video clip. What is the problem?
There should be a Clips folder in the same folder as the flash training folder. The Clips folder contains all of the individual clips used in the training package, each saved as an .AVI file.
Sometimes, the unzip/file extraction process is unsuccessful and the Clips folder is not created properly.
Please try to unzip the original download file again, and check that the Clips folder is in place before running the training module.
I receive a Date Format Error when I try to import a completed Offline Control Assessment questionnaire back into STREAM
The STREAM Offline Control Assessment (OCA) utility allows users to specify target dates for control improvements.
As a first step in the uploading of a completed OCA, a check is made that target dates are correctly formatted (dd/mm/yyyy) for SQL Server import.
If not, then they are converted into this format.
If there are unrecognizable dates in the target dates column, this error is displayed.
I receive an 'Unhandled Exception' error when trying to use the STREAM Database Uploader. What should I do?
As explained in the STREAM Installation manual, if you are using the STREAM Database Uploader on Windows Vista or Windows 7, it is important to right-click on Uploader.exe and select the Run as administrator option.
Although you may have administrative rights under Windows, the Uploader will attempt to load a database into SQL Server. Due to the User Access Control (UAC) feature of Vista and 7, this administrator status is NOT passed through to SQL Server.
I receive an error message when I try to install STREAM Extended Reporting - 'Cannot find the object...' Error
When you try to install STREAM Extended Reporting, you may receive the following error message:
Msg 15151, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
Cannot find the object 'tblEnterpriseSettings', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.
In configuring the Event Settings, the up and down arrows (to change the order of entries) are greyed out. How do I use these?
You need to click in the left column next to the item that you wish to move.
The Up and Down arrows will then become active.
In the STREAM Extended Reporting 'Action Report', what is the significance of the Action Due column?
The Control Schedule report in STREAM lists those controls which have improvement actions recorded against them.
In the STREAM ISO 27001 Application, why are Information Assets defined separately to other Asset Classes?
In the ISO 27001 App, business assets are assets which PROCESS, STORE or COMMUNICATE information. This includes technical infrastructure and networks, physical locations, third parties and people. These are entered on the Assets menu.
Threats can directly affect such assets leading to the set of generated risks (threats to assets), and the compromise of information.
